Hey there, and Welcome to The Daily Carrot!
My name is Zachary Stephens, a passionate advocate for pro-metabolic health, holistic wellness, and cutting through the noise of modern nutrition myths. With information being more accessible than ever, we’re constantly bombarded with conflicting advice. One day sugar is the enemy, the next it’s a superfood. One day eggs raise cholesterol, the next they are praised for their nutrient density. It’s overwhelming. If you’ve ever felt lost in the whirlwind of changing narratives, then I hope this blog can help clear up some confusion and provide some clarity.
Who Am I?
I am an aspiring Nutrition Therapist Master, currently enrolled in the Nutrition Therapy Institute. With just one course remaining, my Independent Study, I plan to use this blog as the basis for the coursework. The Independent Study is just as it sounds, a 20 week deep dive into a topic of my choice. While I have a few ideas in mind, I’m hoping that this blog will help provide clarity as to what that eventually will be, while also providing practical information for you along the way.
Why the Daily Carrot?
The name comes from a well-known Ray Peat inspired practice-eating a raw carrot salad to help detoxify the gut and support hormone balance. Ray Peat held a PhD in Biology with a specialization in physiology and was one of the key figures that drove my passion in this field.
Despite the name, I won’t be posting every day. This would be unsustainable and the quality would suffer. However, I believe that everyone should be eating a raw carrot salad, daily.
Just like the simple carrot salad, my goal is to help “flush out” toxic health information and replace it with understanding, truth and actionable insights.
What Can You Expect?
This blog isn’t intended to be a “You should eat X and avoid Y”. The goal is to provide information so you can take what resonates with you and apply that to your life in a sustainable way. There isn’t a one size fits all protocol. What works for some, may not work for others.
For example, if I’m talking about cow’s milk and you are lactose intolerant, that the information may not be relevant for you–and that’s okay! We don’t want to prescribe rigid rules, but explore different avenues so you can find what works for you.
While I do believe in a pro-metabolic approach, this doesn’t mean a blanket approach. There are many ways to support your metabolism and energy production. My goal is to break this down in an easy to digest (😉) way so that you can understand the principles rather than relying upon a dogmatic blueprint.
Here at The Daily Carrot, I’ll be diving into:
- Pro-metabolic Ideologies–what truly fuels the body and restores energy.
- Breaking Down Common Health Myths so you to make informed choices.
- Simple, effective strategies to optimize metabolism and feel your best.
If you’re tired of running in circles, wanting to restore your energy and vitality, and finally make sense of nutrition, you’re in the right place.
This is a space to learn and grow together. I certainly don’t have all of the answers but I am committed to learning as much as I can about the body, questioning and discovering as much as possible about the human body and how we can best fuel it.
Let’s learn together.
